Journey to Koh Si Chang

I trigger my adventurous side with last minute planning to Koh Si Chang. Armed with all the info that I can gather, I jump on BTS to Ekamai. Easter terminal wasn’t that hard to find, it is just located next to one of the exit. This one looks more neat compare to Victory Monument.

I walked passed a few guys offering service of some sort, went inside and look for Si Racha. There it was on the big window glass at the top, with some writing that indicate the cost of 110 or something. So I walked to the window, the lady was in the next window asking me to come to her window. I asked for one ticket to Si Racha, and she indicated it is 130 baht. Ok, I though the price might have gone up. So I paid the fare, and she indicated that I need to go to the back where the bus is waiting. So I went, and there is a guy indicating me to follow him, and he pointed me to jump on the van. I just realise why it was more expensive, it wasn’t the bus, but the van. Oh well, I was in. It wait for a few more minutes, by then it was almost 10 am. It depart exactly when the big bus next to us was departing too. I though that might be the bus that I want, but it went the opposite direction where we went. So I carefully check my GPS every now and again, it seems that we are going in the right direction.

Ok, an hour passed, it seems that the journey just takes longer that what it should, according to the guide it should only take about 1 hour and 20 minutes, so I keep checking my google map again (what would I do without it?). And then we passed Si Racha, I think, but the guy didn’t asked me to hop off, and it hit me, that he might not know where I wanted to go, so I asked him that I need to go to Koh Loi pier, he scratched his head, not sure whether he understand or thinking that we just passed Si Racha. So he chat with the driver for a while and then told me that he will drop me off, and I will need to get to the other side, and hop on another van to get back. So I said ok, and I hop off, climb the over bridget and get to the bus stop.

A few minutes later a van arrived, and I asked for Koh Loi, he said no, another one passed by again I asked for Koh Loi, and he said no, the third one passed and again I asked for Koh Loi, Koh Si Chang, he also said no. At this point I began to think that I am not going to get back to where I want. So I put my hope on the next one, this one said ok, so I hop on. A few stops later he keep jamming people in, and on the three seat, we squeeze in 4 people. After a while it seems that I am back to Si Racha, and he indicated that I need to get to Koh Loi by motorbike, so I said ok, and then I hop off. I walk to the next intersection, then a guy next to tuk tuk asked me where I want to go. I said Koh Loi, he said ok, and asked me to go with him, then I asked how much, he indicated 50 baht, so I said ok. But the tuk tuk driver doesn’t want to take, it seems like the traffic is bad, and he said I better off taking motorbike, so I said ok, and walk to the motorbike, but the motorbike driver again doesn’t want to go, saying something like the wave or whatever is bad.

So I keep walking, and another motorbike driver asked me, so I said Koh Loi, he said hop on, and I did so he took me through the crazy traffic through the pier on the wrong side of the road and occasionally criscrossing from one side to the other. There seems to be a big family event, and eventualy I arrived at the pier. The ticket booth was selling the ferry ticket for 50 Baht, hmm the price had gone up, I though. The time was 12:20 PM. The 2 ladies said the ferry depart at sometime, I didn’t notice what they said. So I hang around for a while not noticing the ferry was just by the pier, I didn’t expect it to be that old. So I followed another passenger to hop on and wait. While taking photos of the Goddess or Mercy shrine on the pier. Finally the ferry depart at exactly 1:00 PM, the journey takes about 45 minutes.
